Faith Formation: The Three Layers of Real Change
Bringing change through exploring our daily actions, emotional motivations, and core beliefs.
When life feels overwhelming, it’s hard to know where to start. You might be dealing with anxiety, relationship struggles, past wounds, or simply feeling stuck. My counseling approach is designed to meet you where you are: while gently guiding you toward deeper healing and lasting change through God’s truth.
1. We Start with What’s Happening (Presenting Problems)
Most people come to counseling because of specific struggles: stress at work, conflicts at home, feelings of sadness, fear, or anger. These are the real, day-to-day challenges that weigh you down. In our sessions, we’ll take time to talk about what’s going on in your life right now and the ways you’re responding. I’ll listen with care, not just to your words, but to the emotions underneath. This is where we begin.
2. We Explore What’s Driving the Struggle (Emotional Motivations)
Underneath every struggle, there are deeper emotional currents. Past experiences, wounds, and longings often shape how we respond to life today. Together, we’ll explore these emotions in a safe, compassionate space. This is not just about “fixing” behaviors but understanding the “why” behind them so we can find healthier ways forward.
3. We Address the Heart of the Matter (Spiritual Dynamics)
As a Christian counselor, I believe that our deepest struggles are not just emotional but spiritual. Often, the way we see God, or how we think He sees us, can get tangled up with our pain. Lies like “I’m not good enough” or “God doesn’t really think I matter” take root in our hearts. But the truth of the Gospel has the power to bring real healing.
Why This Matters
This three-layer approach: starting with life’s problems, exploring emotional roots, and addressing spiritual beliefs, leads to lasting transformation. It’s not a quick fix, but a process of healing from the inside out. You won’t just learn to “cope” with life; you’ll grow in your relationship with God and experience the freedom that comes from His truth.
