The Faith Formation Model I use combines my Master’s degree in Counseling Ministries with real-world pastoral experience across diverse communities. I’ve walked alongside people through anxiety disorders that paralyzed their daily functioning, depression so deep they couldn’t see hope, and addictions that seemed to destroy everything they loved.
When Anxiety, Depression, or Addiction Feel Overwhelming, There's a Path Forward
You might be wrestling with anxiety that keeps you awake at night, depression that makes each day feel like a mountain to climb, or addiction patterns that feel impossible to break. Perhaps you’re dealing with relationship struggles, past wounds, or simply feeling stuck in cycles you can’t escape. When life feels overwhelming, it’s hard to know where to start.
My counseling approach is designed to meet you where you are—whether you’re battling anxious thoughts, depressive episodes, or addictive behaviors—while gently guiding you toward deeper healing and lasting change through God’s truth.
With over 12 years of pastoral experience and specialized training in counseling ministries, I use the Faith Formation Model—a three-layer approach that doesn’t just help you cope with anxiety, depression, or addiction, but leads to genuine transformation from the inside out.
The Faith Formation Model: How We'll Work Together
Layer 1: We Start with What’s Happening (Presenting Problems)
Most people come to counseling because of specific struggles that disrupt daily life. If you’re dealing with anxiety, we’ll explore those racing thoughts, physical symptoms, and the situations that trigger your worry. For those battling depression, we’ll examine the heaviness, isolation, and loss of hope that cloud your days. If addiction is your struggle, we’ll look at the behaviors, triggers, and cycles that feel beyond your control.
These are the real, day-to-day challenges that weigh you down—whether it’s panic attacks at work, the inability to get out of bed, or reaching for substances to numb emotional pain. In our sessions, we’ll take time to talk about what’s happening in your life right now and how you’re responding. I’ll listen with care, not just to your words, but to the emotions and patterns underneath. This is where we begin.
Layer 2: We Explore What’s Driving the Struggle (Emotional Motivations)
Underneath every struggle with anxiety, depression, or addiction, there are deeper emotional currents. Past trauma, unresolved grief, childhood wounds, and unmet longings often fuel these conditions. Anxiety frequently stems from fear of abandonment or loss of control. Depression can emerge from deep-seated shame or feelings of worthlessness. Addictive patterns often develop as ways to cope with overwhelming emotions or fill spiritual voids.
Together, we’ll explore these emotions in a safe, compassionate space. This is not just about managing symptoms or “fixing” behaviors, but understanding the “why” behind them. We’ll uncover how past experiences shaped your current responses, so we can find healthier ways forward that address the root causes, not just the surface symptoms.
Layer 3: We Address the Heart of the Matter (Spiritual Dynamics)
As a Christian counselor, I believe that our deepest struggles with anxiety, depression, and addiction are not just emotional but spiritual. Often, the way we see God, or how we think He sees us, becomes entangled with our pain and perpetuates our struggles.
Anxiety frequently grows when we carry burdens God never intended us to bear, forgetting His promise to cast our cares on Him. Depression can deepen when we believe lies like “God has abandoned me” or “I’m beyond His love.” Addiction often flourishes in the gap between our spiritual longings and earthly attempts to fill what only God can satisfy.
In this layer, we’ll gently acknowledge those false beliefs and replace them with what God says is true. Through Scripture, prayer, and Spirit-led conversation, you’ll begin to see yourself the way God sees you: loved, valued, forgiven, and never alone. You’ll discover that His peace can calm your anxious heart, His joy can lift your depression, and His presence can satisfy what addiction promises but never delivers.
Why This Three-Layer Approach Works for Anxiety, Depression, and Addiction
This approach—starting with life’s problems, exploring emotional roots, and addressing spiritual beliefs—leads to lasting transformation for even the most persistent struggles. It’s not a quick fix, but a process of healing from the inside out.
For anxiety sufferers, you won’t just learn coping techniques; you’ll discover the peace that comes from trusting God with your fears. Those battling depression will find not just symptom management, but genuine hope rooted in God’s unchanging love. If addiction is your struggle, you’ll experience not just behavior modification, but true freedom through spiritual transformation.
You’ll grow in your relationship with God and experience the freedom that comes from His truth, breaking cycles that old you captive.
